CLAPS Overview

Community Living Association for Parents of Special Citizens CLAPS is a parents’ initiative to find a long-term sustainable care and support for persons/ with intellectual disabilities as per RPWD Act 2016. It addresses a key question that parents of these special Citizens have, ‘What after us’? The Community is being established in the village of Neiveli, Thiruvallur Taluk for the needs of Special Citizens, to promote Independent Living and Care of them throughout their life time. A group of 48 families have joined together in this endeavour. Applications are invited for the post of hostel incumbent (female/male). The person would be required to stay in the staff (1 Room Space) during tenure at Claps.

Location: Neiveli, Thiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu (Approx 50 kms from Chennai)

Roles and responsibilities

  • The Incumbent will be directly responsible for the running of the residential living unit of CLAPS which will be occupied by special citizens.
  • The Incumbent shall be responsible for the health, hygiene and general welfare of the special citizens residing in the hostels that are specifically assigned to him/her and shall attend to all matters of heath, sickness, diet, sanitation and cleanliness in accordance with laid down orders/guidelines.
  • The Incumbent shall be responsible for the resident special citizens wellbeing and shall ensure that the special citizens and their caregivers concerned observe the rules framed for their guidance and maintenance of decorum.
  • The incumbent will coordinate with all people involved – partner organizations who have been signed on to run the residential living facility, CLAPS team members, care givers, resource persons and administrative staff.
  • The incumbent will manage the response to incidents and emergencies relating to health, safety and general wellbeing of special citizens
  • Taking part in implementation fire drills, crime prevention and health & safety awareness initiatives
  • Responding to on-site emergencies during out of hours (burst pipes, broken windows, burglaries, locked out of rooms etc.)
  • The wellbeing of the children and of the team of caregivers will be under the care of the incumbent.
  • The incumbent is the team leader for the residential living facility.
  • The incumbent will be required to check in and perform team building measures as and when required.
  • The incumbent will coordinate and synchronise with the operations of the day care/ vocational Center. Including the Center head, teachers and therapists of the said day care Center.
  • To produce periodical reports on Health, Behavior & Daily Routines of the special citizens with co-ordination of Care Givers.
  • To produce an Annual Report for each academic year

Essential qualification: Candidates should be Graduates/Post Graduates/ Master of Social Work/Psychology/Occupational Therapy and / Or with Special Education experience in a similar residential care of Specially Abled, preferably Autism.

Experience required: 5 to 10 years

Remuneration: Remuneration will be based on Qualifications and Experience.

Key skills: Good communications skills, fair knowledge of Tamil, Hindi and English language, knowledge of Basic IT skills like MS Word and Ms Excel/Internet, proactive, resourceful and flexible, ready to take on responsibilities
